Final Memo

April 22nd, 2008

The training I’ve received in the Professional Writing department has left me with a very well-rounded skill set which I think is evident in my portfolio. The work I did in Intro and Advanced Web Authoring prepared me for my job at the WIDE Center as a web developer. My technical writing classes taught me how to standardize information structure and explain complex ideas using language that everyone can understand. My design courses such as Visual Rhetoric and Information Graphics, taught me design principles and standards in both web and print environments. They also taught me valuable rules about typography, layout, alignment and color schemes. Now I can not only make written arguments, but visual ones too. Digital Rhetoric helped expand my user experience vocabulary and my portfolio by teaching me how to create user personas and experience maps. Throughout all my classes, I have improved my analytical skills which allows me to convey ideas effectively in different tones, styles and genres. Most of all it taught me how to educate myself according to my surroundings.
